Date of publication: 2019-05-16

On May 13, in New York, one of the key events of the cryptocurrency world began - Consensus-2019. The conference lasted three days and brought together industry leaders to discuss pressing issues and prospects for the development of cryptocurrencies.

The Consensus-2019 was attended by many large IT companies and representatives of the cryptocurrency world. Among the most famous are Microsoft, IBM, Amazon, Venrock, Forbes, Circle, Bloomberg, Gemini, Binance Labs and Ethereum Foundation. Also present were the leaders of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Yesterday, May 15, the conference came to an end and we can summarize. It is noted that, despite expectations, the event could not be attended by Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum project manager. The exact reason is not known, but many attribute this to great employment and lack of time.

TRON will work with BitTorrent and Opera

One of the speakers at the event was TRON CEO Justin Sun. He voiced the main news related to the development of the project. According to the head, in the second quarter of this year, it is planned to launch BitTorrent based on the new blockchain. In the future, BitTorrent is also expected to support Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Among other significant news of the project, voiced during the Consensus, were plans to join the Opera browser ecosystem. Support for TRX and other system tokens will be added to the crypto wallet of the popular program.

It is noted that during the conference there was just a huge amount of TRON advertising. Users of social networks published photos where, even in the toilet on the floor, a peculiar advertisement of the project was placed.

EBay Denies Cryptocurrency Rumors, But Gemini Will Do It

Another participant in the conference is the eBay international trading platform, which managed to increase the media response even before the start of the event. The fact is that pictures of advertising banners with the inscription: “Cryptocurrencies. This is happening on eBay. ” Many users were inclined to the version that the platform plans to introduce the possibility of crypto payments.

However, during the conference, marketplace officials denied this information. As explained in eBay, the slogan meant that on the site you can find many products related to mining and the cryptocurrency world as a whole.

But the representatives of the Gemini exchange present at the Consensus-2019, on the contrary, are actively working in the field of cryptocurrency operations. Plans were announced to help major retailers in the United States.

The exchange will help support the implementation of cryptocurrency payments. The list of companies that support settlements in BTC, ETH, Bitcoin Cash and Gemini Dollar include: Barnes & Noble, Baskin Robbins, Bed Bath & Beyond, Crate & Barrel, GameStop, Nordstrom, Whole Foods, Regal, Petco and some other well-known companies.

Forecasts for the course and bet for hundreds of thousands of dollars

The conference was attended by well-known trader Peter Brandt. In his speech, he voiced forecasts for altcoins existing today. A trading veteran is sure that 99% of the coins will be useless, but this does not apply to the leader - Bitcoin. Brandt expressed his opinion that at the end of 2017, BTC was in the hands of very unreasonable people and now coins are returning to more prudent owners.

Also in his speech, the trader spoke about the Bitcoin platform Bitcoin futures. Brandt believes that they have a great future and with their appearance, many illiquid and dishonest exchange sites will cease to exist.

Not without controversy. At the Consensus, Bitcoin Core developer Jimmy Song and Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin made a very large bet. The dispute concerned the future of Ethereum-based dApps.

The essence of the bet is that if 15 unique dApps can collect 10,000 daily active users and 100,000 monthly within 6 months, Song will owe Lubin 810.8 ETH. Otherwise, Lubin will pay 69.74 BTC to his opponent. The bet will last until May 23, 2023 and will be considered any 6 months in a row.

New Technologies Begin at Consensus

During the conference, the founder of the NEO cryptocurrency project, Da Hongfei, presented the new NEO 3.0 blockchain and described the planned innovations. It is noted that at the moment the new technology is at the development stage.

As explained by Hunfei, the main goal of NEO 3.0 is to provide the optimal infrastructure for mass implementation of the project. Among the key changes introduced in the new blockchain were announced improvement of the architecture, implementation of support for layer2 and a number of new functionalities. Also mentioned were improvements in security and directly consensus optimization.

The new functionality is also offered by BitGo, a company specializing in storing cryptocurrency savings. It is planned to launch a clearing settlement service for the institutional clients of the company. It is expected that the introduction of a new service will increase the level of protection of user assets during transactions, as well as reduce existing risks when working with counterparties.

2019 will be rich in new projects

During the Consensus, the collaboration of the leaders of the crypto projects Cardano and Polymath was announced. They are now actively working on the creation of a new Polymesh blockchain, which is designed to realize the possibility of issuing security tokens. The platform will be focused on corporate users and will offer the function of issuing securities that fully comply with existing legal requirements.

Also during the Consensus-2019, the Chainlink project was announced. CEO Sergei Nazarov said the core network will begin operations on Ethereum on May 30. Using this platform, it will be possible to connect smart contracts from various blockchains with conventional payment systems.

Consensus-2019 can clearly be called successful. Many new projects announced their launch, while existing ones announced the introduction of new features and technologies.
